Homemade Simple Syrup

Homemade Simple Syrup

I've always wanted to create my own cocktails at home, but I kept running into the same problem—most recipes call for simple syrup. Since I usually only have the alcohol on hand, this felt like a huge barrier. Little did I know, making simple syrup is incredibly easy! After doing some research, I felt a bit silly for letting this hold me back for so long. I want to help you avoid the same mistake and show you how simple it really is. I've put together a straightforward process from my own experience that you can follow to start making delicious cocktails at home.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • A saucepan
  • A stirring spoon
  • A heat-proof container or bottle for storage

Step by Step Guide to Making Simple Syrup:

Step 1: Measure Your Ingredients To keep things simple and effective, we’ll stick to a 1:1 ratio. Measure out 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of water. This ratio ensures that your syrup is sweet without being overpowering.

Step 2: Combine and Heat Pour the water into a saucepan and add the white sugar. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat.

Step 3: Stir and Dissolve Stir the mixture constantly as it heats up. The sugar will start to dissolve into the water. Continue stirring until the liquid becomes clear and all the sugar granules have completely dissolved. This usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 4: Cool and Store Once the sugar is fully dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat. Let the syrup cool to room temperature. After it has cooled, pour it into a heat proof container or bottle. Seal it tightly and store it in the refrigerator. Your homemade simple syrup will keep for about a month, ready to sweeten up your favorite drinks at a moment’s notice.

Now that you have your homemade simple syrup, it’s time to put it to good use! Lets make a white rum Mojito, great for home linkups, games night and more. Wray & Nephew White Rum Mojito.
